Every year on 20 May, the world commemorates World Metrology Day, recognising the importance of measurements, standards and accuracy in commerce, science, health and industry.

Although metrology is scientific in nature, it also has important legal implications. Fair trade and consumer confidence depend heavily on accuracy, transparency and accountability in the supply of goods and services.

The law therefore plays an important role in ensuring that:

  • goods are sold according to correct weights and measurements;
  • consumers receive the quality and quantity they pay for;
  • products and services meet required standards; and
  • businesses operate fairly and transparently within the marketplace.

At Dzekedzeke and Company, we have represented and continue to represent aggrieved consumers in disputes involving goods and services. We also represent service providers, suppliers and businesses in matters concerning commercial liability, contractual obligations and consumer claims.

Through this experience, we appreciate that consumer protection law is not intended to unfairly burden businesses, but rather to promote fairness, accountability and trust between consumers and service providers.

Strong legal and regulatory standards help create confidence in trade, protect the public from unfair practices and support sustainable commercial relationships.

On this 20th day of May, we recognise the importance of standards, accuracy and legal accountability in promoting fairness within commerce and consumer transactions.
